ABOUT

Our Corporate Social Responsibility

Driven by Corporate and Social Responsibility, we are dedicated to enhancing
communities and fostering positive societal and environmental change.

Being a corporately responsible organisation is not an obligation, but, throughout our 55 years in business, we always understood our duty to give back to society by applying our large workforce, tools, and principles to good causes, targeting specific areas of importance to us and our staff.

The Environment

Our operations are moving towards a fully paperless system. We are in the process of introducing electric vehicles to our fleet. In addition, all our products are environmentally friendly and all waste is disposed of appropriately. As an organisation, we recognise the harm of single-use plastics on the environment and our health and are working to replace these with materials that are not damaging to marine life, human health, and society.

Society

Our first CSR initiative can be traced back to 1969, when CEO Emanuel Degiorgio volunteered his time to the conservation of the Mdina Catacombs. Since then, the team has continued to identify and contribute to several other social causes:

We have volunteered at a number of animal shelters – including CSAF (Carers for Stray and Abandoned Felines), AAA (Association for Abandoned Animals), and RMJ’s Horse Rescue – that lacked the human resources to carry out day-to-day tasks. 10 of our workers got involved with grooming, feeding and caring for the animals. We also gave the sanctuary facilities a deep clean that ensured the safety and wellbeing of the animals and volunteers, and provided each NGO with 30 sanitiser dispensers and a total of nearly €3,000.

Moreover, our dedication extends beyond animal welfare – we have also contributed to the Millennium Chapel in St Julian’s by donating a variety of preserved foods. This initiative was made possible through the collective effort of all our employees, including administration staff, cleaners, and other clients. Additionally, Bad Boy Cleaners stepped up in a big way by generously donating a substantial amount of non-perishable foods to the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation. This achievement was made possible through collaboration with Calypso Radio, who hosted a remarkable 24-hour donation drive.

The Bad Boy team devoted around 250 hours to Dar tal-Providenza, and additional hours to YMCA and private homes that needed a helping hand. We provided the new Mtarfa Home for the elderly with a post- construction deep clean and disinfection, ensuring a safe environment for its inhabitants and workers.

Throughout 2020, we provided janitors, supplies and machinery to a number of Caritas housing, including for their new residence in Floriana.

We also dedicated a team to a number of soup kitchens, to clean and disinfect all areas of the kitchen, and even help serve food to customers.

COVID-19

In the early months of 2020, following the outbreak of COVID-19, we, like many others, established a strategy to mitigate the harsh impact of the pandemic on our industry. Despite having little to no bookings, every member of the team retained their job with the support of the government, and we decided to use our funds and manpower to implement a number of CSR initiatives, which provided work for our staff while also helping those in need.

Over 100 members of our team participated in landscaping, cleaning, disinfecting and organising 10 local councils across Malta, namely Valletta, Gzira, Dingli, Rabat, Isla, Birgu, Luqa, Siggiewi and Msida, in order for them to operate in a safe and comfortable environment. We disinfected government housing across the island at no cost, including cleaning of all common areas and public bathrooms, and landscaping of outdoor areas.

We donated all kinds of safety equipment, including gloves, sanitiser, masks and toiletries to several organisation and local councils. In all, we contributed over 80,000 voluntary hours of work to the cause.
